About Us

2008
This year promises to be full of surprises. We are entering the Launceston Competitions in two sections and Denise has got all sorts of wonderful new music ready for us.

At our first rehearsal we met quite a few new faces which was fantastic - hopefully our choir will grow stronger and better throughout the year.

2007
Another great year for our choir with lots of laughter and fun.

We had a special gig this year, performing at Denise and Allan's wedding in June. We worked very hard on our songs and I think we all agree we pulled it off beautifully. It was a pleasure to sing such moving songs as "Come What May" and "The Shoshone Love Song".

Somewhere in third term Denise decided that we could do with a challenge and provided us with 9 daunting pages of Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus". At first, this seemed an impossible task but with Gaynor's fantastic piano recording skills we were able to practise our parts at home... well, for some of us in the car when no-one else was around.

We ended up performing it together with the Launceston Brass Band at their annual Christmas concert, which was a real thrill.

2006
This year was a blast. We started on 7 March, with over 50 people which dwindled over the winter months to a steady 30-odd at the end of the year. We have accomplished incredible things, including recording four of our Term 1 songs on CD, performing at Launceston City Council's "It's About Us" closing concert accompanied by the Launceston Brass Band; a Christmas concert with the RSL Brass Band; and our highlight, performing "solo" as well as forming part of the massed community choir at the Launceston Carols by Candlelight production in City Park.

Our statewide ABC radio debut took place on 21.12.06, when we sang three songs live in the foyer of the ABC studio's in Launceston. Great acoustics!

Over the year a core group of people has formed, some of whom have attended the choir since the first term and who are now finally remembering each other's names! If you are in the "bottoms" (alto's) it was hard to get to know the "tops" (soprano's) because the "middles" were always in between!

We have had a few social events as well this year culminating in our end-of-year get-together. It was great to have some time to socialise properly and try out Playstation Karaoke - fortunately no recordings are available!
